Boring stuff

Things around the homestead have been pretty boring over the last couple of weeks. After the 2 chicken deaths I've been more vigilant about checking on them and making sure they have water and cooling treats. The weather here has been insanely hot. They say it's 92 with a real feel of over 100, but I say they're wrong. How can you have a real feel when all of my outdoor thermometers read well over 100? So of course, I've been taking my chickens some frozen treats. Read that as I take out bowls of frozen fruit or veggies in water and let them chow down on it. It's cooling and a nice treat for them. The funny thing is that because I've been doing that every day, at different times of the day, as soon as I walk out the back door of the house they all come running out of their coop and wait at the chicken run door.

Chickens are hilarious. Some people say they're very smart considering how small their brains are. Others say they're really dumb. I just say they're funny. They're like dogs with feathers. They listen, laugh at me, come running when I call their names, and even give cuddles. Yes they're dirty and can be super weird. But they bring me joy.

Other than that nothing interesting is going on. Everything in the greenhouse has to be watered multiple times a day, again because of the extreme heat. But everything is growing well and I should have an amazing tomato harvest if nothing else. Lol.

I planted so much stuff in late winter and early spring and it seems like the only thing really doing well is the tomatoes and peppers. To be fair half the greenhouse is filled with tomatoes and peppers. But I have so many ideas on what to do with them. Salsa, tomato sauce, hot sauce, chili powder. Hopefully I'll remember to document all of the canning and harvests so that everyone can see what I've been up to.

For now, we'll end it with this...boring is good when you're raising your own animals and growing your own food. It means you're doing everything right. I'll take a boring homestead any day.
