Since realizing that I had a ginormous pumpkin plant growing in my backyard, I started looking up ways to use the pumpkins. One of those ways is by making treats for my fluffy little girl, a.k.a. my Husky Tifa.

I haven't made dog treats since I was a teenager, when we made them in Girl Scouts to donate to an animal shelter. The wonderful thing about making your own dog treats is that you know what's going into them. You know exactly what they'll be eating.

So, I found a recipe that only uses 3 ingredients. Pumpkin puree, whole wheat flour, and an egg.

The recipe tells you to beat the egg and put in a bowl with 2 cups of whole wheat flour and mix together. Then you're supposed to add in the 1 cup of pumpkin puree. I kind of did things a bit different and just tossed everything into a bowl and mixed until it was thoroughly combined. It worked just fine and the treats came out the same, so you decide which way you want to do it.

Then you roll out your dough on a floured surface to 1/2" - 3/4"and cut them into 1" squares. Again, I did my own thing and used my hand to press the dough relatively even then used cookie cutters to make fun treats. You can do whatever you like, I honestly don't think there's a right or wrong way to do it.

Next, is to bake them. The recipe says to bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until golden brown. I have a convection oven so I baked mine for about 18-20 minutes. But I also didn't want them to be rock hard, like the recipe said they would.

Overall, this was a super easy process and the bonus is my dog is getting a super healthy treat. I grew the pumpkin and my chickens laid the egg, so it's a win win in my book.
